SO. I just realized that I should probably put one of these up!
The Doctor has mild telepathic powers. It usually doesn't come up unless someone or something projects and she picks it up, but she can read minds through touch, and she has the ability to talk to things humans and other humanoid creatures might not realize have the ability to communicate directly, such as animals, entities, etc. Let me know if this is alright with your character, and how easily she'd be able to understand them if so.
Also, she likes to scan things with her sonic screwdriver. A lot. It's basically like a handshake for her at this point. If she does this to your character, what would you be comfortable with it picking up re: species, medical/biological data, age, etc.
